Microsoft PowerPoint: Research Poster Creation

Do you need to know how to produce a poster for your research as part of a conference?  Not really sure how to set the poster size, create a banner heading, or size and position the University logo correctly, etc?  If so, then this course is definitely for you! 

As part of the course, you will learn how to produce an eye-catching elegantly formatted poster that will showcase your research to your peers.  Don't forget, posters are usually peer-reviewed, so it's important that you get it right the first time!

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Create an eye-catching, elegantly formatted research poster

  • Work effectively with themes to layer the background correctly

  • Insert text boxes and shapes

  • Apply font and paragraph formatting

  • Import data into Microsoft PowerPoint from a number of different applications

  • Incorporate images and charts

  • Create and work with a simple SmartArt graphic

  • Use a range of printing techniques


Pre-Requisites:

If you are not proficient with all of the learning outcomes of the Microsoft PowerPoint Foundation of Slideshow Presentations course, then you are strongly advised to attend that course before attending this course. The Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation Enhancements course below, builds on the skills you will have previously developed and there will not be time to cover that material in this session.

To participate in this session you will need to have the latest version of Microsoft Office installed on your device before the session starts. If you are unsure if you have the latest version please see the Install Office Updates web page.  This session will focus on the Windows version of Microsoft Office.

You are required to attend the whole of the course, this is not a "drop in" session.
