Who should attend?

These courses are NOT open to postgraduate students - they are designed for University staff only. This course carries no training points.



Registration Process


Staff are able to register for a first aid training course at any time- please got to the bottom of the page for dates and to book.  Course registers are regularly reviewed to ensure that delegates meet the eligibility criteria and that line manager approval has been given. As part of the registration process, delegates and line managers are required to complete the following online forms, which will also enable us to track where all qualified first aiders are located:

Cost

Please note:
There is a cost of £50 to attend this course payable by the School/Department and you must attend all parts to gain qualification. If you don't attend without giving 2 weeks' notice, and the place is not taken by another delegate, then the School/Department will still be charged.


Please bring your own lunch to the campus based practical days.



Course Details:

This course is 6 hours in duration and provides a complete set of practical skills needed by first aiders in their workplaces to become confident and competent as a nominated first aider. It meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations.

To achieve this, there will be 3 hours of practical training on campus, preceeded by a minimum 3 hours of off-site learning.

This course is suitable for low risk Schools and Departments where office/classroom teaching type activities take place.

If you work in a high risk environment or feel that you may need to cover a wider range of situations then it is strongly recommended that you attend the First Aid at Work 


Assessment and Certification

There is no final exam, each learner is continuously assessed by the trainer/assessor during their training. It is then both the responsibility and decision of the trainer/assessor to determine if each learner has reached the level required to become a first aider within the work place.

Successful learners will be certified by The International Certification and Training Academy (TICTA) which is valid for three years from course completion date.   In order to retain your certification you are required to repeat this one day course within 28 days of expiry of the previous certificate.




Process

Course leader input, demonstrations and hands-on practical sessions.

Online elearning via trainers portal must be completed and passed 100% PRIOR to attending the in person practical.  Failure to complete the eLearning will result in being turned away on site and place will be charged for.
