Gender & Leadership Communication
Duration 1 day
Team Professional Development
This innovative one day workshop is run by Linguistic Profiling for Professionals (LiPP), a dedicated research consultancy based in the Centre of Research in Applied Linguistics in the School of English, UoN.

The way that we communicate with one another at work encodes a great deal of information about our professional identities, including our gender.  Our Linguistic Profiling approach enables leaders and aspiring leaders to critically assess the role that gender plays in terms of career progression, workplace performance and job satisfaction.  Directly aligned with the most recent legal developments in equality and diversity legislation, workshop participants will be able to recognise the crucial role that language plays in maintaining gender stereotypes and creating barriers that affect how individuals and groups are evaluated and judged at work.

By raising awareness of the communicative styles that workshop participants use in a variety of contexts, we pinpoint the communication norms of their individual workplace cultures.  We provide a set of practical linguistic toolkits, designed to enhance everyday leadership communication, in both face-to-face and digital settings.  The day will also include a session run in collaboration with the LiPP acting team led by Dr. Sarah Grandage, a professionally trained actor, which brings real-life workplace research data stereotyping effectively and the long-term benefits of maximising diversity within workplace teams.
