Grant Proposal 1-day Workshop
Duration 1 day
Team Researcher Academy

This course is delivered by the Researcher Academy

Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you. Semester 1 courses will be available for booking from the second week of October and Semester 2 courses from the second week of February.

Target Audience: Staff only - research and Academic staff who wish to develop their skills in preparing grant applications. This course is suitable for those with limited grant writing experience as well as for those who wish to further develop their proposal development skills.

This course is not open to students.

Overview:

The workshop is divided into 4 blocks, progressing through the techniques, best practice protocols, do’s and don’ts behind the structure of a successful bid, then taking the theory into practice with worked examples, case studies and interactive live content building.

The session will be relevant to all discipline areas and does not focus on proposal writing for any one particular funding body. It will include:

  • techniques, best practice protocols,
  • hints and tips surrounding successful bids
  • worked examples and case studies
  • written exercises

If you have part of a proposal written already, please bring along what you have – there will not be the opportunity for 1:1 feedback on your proposal, but it might be useful for some of the written exercises.

The workshop will require commitment for the entire session, 9.30 to 5pm.

Aims and objectives:

  • To provide guidance in preparing a successful grant application
  • To share good practice in grant writing
  • To make a start writing a proposal

 Resources required:

Please bring your own laptop to the session

If you require the training materials provided on coloured paper or large print, please indicate this whilst booking.

Tutors:

The course will be tutored by members of Grantcraft – a company who have supported institutions with grant applications, since the 1990s.

This course is convened by Researcher Academy in partnership with colleagues in Research and Innovation.

Need the time and space to put the course content into practice? The Research Staff Writing Retreat takes place twice a year in summer and winter. The retreat is held on University Park over three days and is non-residential. For further details see here https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/researchstaff/writing-retreat/index.aspx

Booking Conditions

Latecomer policy

Researchers should plan to arrive prior to the advertised course start time. Except for exceptional reasons, there will be no admittance to a Researcher Academy or Faculty Training Programme (FTP) course 15 minutes after the advertised course start time.

Importance of booking commitment

When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place (on the system if more than three days before the course) or if at short notice by emailing pg-training@nottingham.ac.uk. This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.

It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.
