Who should attend:

 

Any user of the older Nottingham HPC who wishes to use the new facility.

 

 

Objectives:

 

Train users of the older HPC service (Jupiter) to use the new HPC facility (Minerva)

 

Learning Objectives:

 

  • Understand the differences and similarities of Jupiter and Minerva, in particular
  • Appreciate the improvement in hardware specification of the new system.
  • Appreciate how the available filesystems are different on the new system.
  • Understand how to use the new cluster batch job management system.
  • Understand how to run serial jobs, shared memory parallel jobs, and distributed memory parallel jobs.
  • Understand how to run ‘job arrays’
  • Understand the computer resources available to be requested by a batch job, and how to request these.
  • Understand how to view information about jobs whether they are queued, running, or completed.
  • Understand where to find reliable sources of further information.

 

Pre-requisites:

 

Be an established user of the older Nottingham HPC (Jupiter)

 

Process:

 

Attendees require an account on the new HPC before they can attend the course.  Toget an account on the HPC, attendees must apply using the process described at
