Duration 0.5 days
Team Central Short Courses

Who should attend

This course is designed for all those who wish to understand Action Learning and how it may be used to solve problems and to aid in personal development.

The course is open to both staff and Postgraduate Research Students.

Learning Outcomes

Action Learning is a fairly simple concept.  It involves a group of people coming together to talk about problems or challenges they are facing, going away with potential actions they can take and reporting back to a group at a subsequent meeting.  Simple in concept but this technique has proved to be very powerful in its application.  Through the process, problems are solved and learning takes place.  However, there are ways to do this well, and ways to do it less successfully  This course will help you to take the successful path!

The session will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Understand the origins and principles of Action Learning;
  • Consider the different positions one can take in an Action Learning Set - coachee, coach and facilitator;
  • Explore the structure of useful questions as the coach;
  • Consider the merit of running an Action learning Set over time;
  • Consider when and how to use Action Learning.

At the end of the session we will have time for you to consider how you wish to use the knowledge you have acquired.

Process

The course will be a blend of tutor input, group and individual work.
