This workshop is for new members of Engineering staff, and is delivered by Angela Aston (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officer). This session is a basic introduction to unconscious bias and aims to outline how we can mitigate its effects in decision-making processes.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop participants should be able to:

  • Identify what unconscious bias is, and its potential impact on our behaviour and decision making
  • Identify the main categories of bias
  • Explore specific issues with unconscious bias in recruitment and other decision-making situations
  • Identify actions individuals can take to mitigate its effects
