Student Peer Mentoring Schemes
Duration 0.2 days
Team Central Short Courses
Aimed at staff members responsible for leading or supporting the co-ordination and delivery of student peer mentoring schemes within the university.

Student peer mentoring schemes are operating across all faculties and in recent years the training for peer mentors has been additionally supported by a centrally delivered programme of resources. There is therefore a wealth of expertise and good practice across the institution and many examples of excellent feedback from student participants.

Following feedback provided through the 'Student Transition' report, there is a recommendation to revisit and refocus Peer Mentoring, to ensure that support and training for mentors across the institution is consistent and addresses the needs of students and to model against existing good practice.

This session will be led by Andy Winter, Director of Campus Life, who will provide an overview of the relevant feedback provided by students via the student transition report, and Dr Gabriele Neher, who will talk through the challenges and and successes with current models of mentoring.

A series of proposals for how peer mentoring schemes will develop throughout 2018 and 2019 will be shared and this session will provide an opportunity for all those attending to help shape these proposals further through feedback and consultation.

Event aims
- To learn more about the feedback provided by students as part of of the Transitions project
- To understand how Peer Mentoring can better support student transition
- To explore how existing training and support for peer mentors can be developed further
