Overview:

Staff who want to know more about working with disabled students in a teaching and learning context would benefit from this session. It focuses on establishing understanding and good communication, between lecturers and students, and among students. There are often barriers faced by students with different impairments.  Our interaction and communication styles can alleviate many of these barriers and enhance the work and study environment for all.

Outcomes:

Understand different models of disability and reflect on how our view of disability affects our actions.

Identify barriers to communication within the learning and teaching environment and discuss ways to alleviate them
