Who should attend?

 This session is for anyone wishing to explore ways to make their teaching inspirational for their students.

Course Description:

This session investigates what can transform a good teaching session into an inspirational one. Once you are sure of your subject knowledge and can use a variety of teaching and learning methods effectively, there are other aspects of your teaching which you can develop which can enhance the learning experience of your students.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Debate the relative importance of the teaching as a person and the teacher's methods in face-to-face teaching
  • Review your own teacher attributes and the potential for their use and development.

 Course Tutor:

Alan Mortiboys is an external consultant with extensive experience working in education and staff development, both in the UK and abroad. Alan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  His publications include How to be an Effective Teacher in Higher Education (Open University Press 2010) and Teaching with Emotional Intelligence (Routledge 2012).


In addition, there will be the opportunity for participants to:

  • Debate the relative importance of the teacher as a person and the teacher's methods in face-to-face teaching

  • Review their own teacher attributes and the potential for use and development of them
