This session is delivered by the Researcher Academy

Target Audience

New postgraduate research students (PGRs) from all faculties (ie research students who have joined the University within the last 6 months). This session is not applicable to those on taught Masters courses.

 

Process 

This virtual welcome session will take the form of a webinar and will include an induction presentation with information about Researcher Academy, Q&A and a virtual tea break where you can meet Researcher Academy staff and fellow postgraduate researchers. 

Log in details will be emailed to you before the start of the session. 

Session Description

The aim of this session is to help new and relatively new postgraduate research students understand what is available from Researcher Academy to help them during their time as a postgraduate research student. It will introduce you to the range of research,professional and personal development opportunities available and provide an opportunity to network with other research students.

The session will provide:

• An overview of Researcher Academy and the various funding and development opportunities it coordinates.
• An overview of Researcher Academy’s Researcher Development Programme of courses that are free of charge to postgraduate students at the University of Nottingham.
• Information on Researcher Academy's postgraduate placements programme.
• An opportunity to meet other new postgraduate research students and share experiences.

Booking Conditions

Importance of booking commitment
When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place. You can cancel via the booking system if more than three days before the course or if at short notice, by emailing pg-training@nottingham.ac.uk. 

This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.

It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.

Pre-Requisites

You will need a headset or speakers for the webinar and we recommend that you join fifteen minutes before the webinar is due to start so that you can test them. You won’t need to use your microphone, any questions can be asked via the chat. Make sure that your speakers or headset are plugged in and switched on before you click on the link to open the webinar. 

Log in by typing your name into the 'guest' box (not 'registered user'). It is not possible to log in with your university username and password - this will not work.

If you are prompted to update your flash player, or download and install any ‘add-ins’ please do this.

If you run into any problems with your speakers or headset go to 'Meeting' >  'Audio setup wizard' and follow the steps displayed.
