Aims and Objectives

This module, which continues from Semester One, aims to respond to the needs of the group, so the topics covered can be negotiated. These may include:

• Overall organisation and organisation of particular sections
• Language use in different sections
• Appropriate academic style
• Presenting extended argument
• Synthesising sources critically
• Other aspects of MPhil/PhD work, such as writing progress reports, journal articles, conference papers and abstracts

Process

Tutor input, individual and pairwork activities, writing tasks, opportunities to discuss difficulties with writing a thesis and examples of academic written work.

Who should attend

Only for international students studying for MPhil or PhD. The module is suitable both for first time attenders and for students continuing from Semester One.
