This online course is run by the Researcher Academy as part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Training Programme

Target Audience: Postgraduate Research Students and Research Staff in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences. Most relevant to those in the early stages of their doctorate or new to research within a UK University.

This course is part of the M&HS Faculty Training Programme and N-trans training programme, which are convened by Researcher Academy.

Process: A short, online webinar with interactive discussion and a pre-reading task for completion in advance of the webinar.

Pre-reading task approximately 1-1.5 hours in duration. The webinar is 2 hours in duration. All course resources including the pre-reading are provided on the course's Moodle page. The Moodle URL is provided in the booking confirmation email. 
 
Course description:

This workshop will focus on the ethical thinking underpinning regulations surrounding research involving human subjects. The course will not cover how to write an ethics submission or the specifics of the regulations and governance (see Research Ethics for Doctoral Researchers (online)). 

Aims: To gain an overview of the ethical issues associated with research involving human subjects

Objectives:
By the end of the course you will have knowledge of:
  • the ethical issues relating to clinical research involving human subjects and tissue
  • how people make ethical decisions
