Target Audience: Early stage postgraduate research students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. 

Course description:

This is the first of two sessions, to introduce students to the fundamentals of good laboratory and research practice. This course covers the various aspects of laboratory safety during an online webinar and does not include a practical session.
You may find the resources (short videos) provided on the 'Laboratory 101' Moodle page useful to augment the learning from this course. 

Aims: To provide formal training on aspects of safety in the laboratory.

Objectives:

By the end of the session you will be able to:
·  understand basic good laboratory practice
·  Appreciate how to conduct research safely and efficiently
·  understand the requirements for safe working practices, including COSHH and risk assessment
·  understand experimental design and the need for controls
·  consider ways in which you can maximise your research effort

Process:

This course will be delivered synchronously through live webinar delivery on Teams. The webinar will be recorded. When you book your place, you will be sent an email containing the course's Moodle page url. The Moodle page contains all the necessary resources for the course including the webinar joining link. Please access the Moodle page using this url as soon as possible to familiarise yourself with course resources. This course does not have a pre-task.
