The ABC learning design workshop is an interactive practical workshop, developed at UCL, and based on Diana Laurillard’s conversational framework. This is a well known pedagogic approach that supports module-level design work in online, blended or face-to-face contexts.
The online workshop
At this interactive workshop you will work in groups to create a visual "storyboard" for a module, using pre-printed cards that represent the type and sequence of learning activities required to meet the learning outcomes of the module. The workshop aims to be face-paced, so that after 90-120 minutes you can leave the workshop with a complete storyboard for a module. UCL report that "ABC has been found particularly useful for new programmes or those changing to an online or more blended format."
Preparations
If you wish to work on a particular module, please review the learning outcomes for the module ahead of the workshop, and please bring these with you to the event.
The workshop runs well when teams work together to "storyboard" their module. To facilitate a group-based approach we ask that you complete this form to indicate the members of your module team that have signed up to this workshop with you. You can also join the workshop if you are the sole contributor to your module, or are attending the workshop on your own - please then indicate this on the form.
