An introduction to High Performance Computing

This course will cover all of the basic skills and knowledge required to use the University of Nottingham HPC.

Topics covered include:

- Logging in to the HPC

- Basic linux commands for navigating the HPC environment

- Transferring files to and from the HPC

- Partitions and resources available on the HPC

- Writing basic job submission scripts

- Using SLURM (the HPC's workload manager) to submit and mange compute jobs

- Accessing software on the HPC

- Using the Open On Demand portal to access the HPC.

If possible please bring your laptop to the session so you can complete the practical elements of the course. Course instructor: Dr Laura Dean (Senior Technical Specialist - Bioinformatics). This course is intended for PhD students, Post-Docs, Research staff and anyone with a HPC account at UoN who requires instruction in using a HPC.
