Starting out as a researcher (webinar)
Duration 2 hours
Team Researcher Academy

This webinar is run by the Researcher Academy as part of the Arts Researcher Skills Programme

Target Audience: This session is part of the core Arts Researcher Skills Programme for early stage researchers in the Faculty of Arts only. This webinar will be aimed at researchers who are on distance-learning PhD programmes. If you aren't on a distance-learning programme, we strongly recommend you attend the in person instance of this workshop.

Pre-course activity: before researchers attend this webinar, they must work through the Development Needs Analysis activity on Moodle. At the webinar itself there will be time to answer any queries and to offer support and advice where required.

Description: The aim of this 2 hour webinar is to introduce new Arts researchers to the Researcher Academy and the many ways it can help to empower and support you in your research journey, as well as giving you time to ask us questions and meet each other. Here's what you can expect:

  • Welcome and introduction from Dr Andy Goffey (Researcher Academy Faculty Lead for Arts) and Dr Eleanor Forward (Researcher Training & Development Manager for Arts)
  • Researcher Academy induction for new researchers with a focus on provision and opportunities for Arts researchers
  • Breakout groups, so new researchers can meet each other in smaller groups
  • Hear from a more experienced Arts researcher and ask them questions
  • Development Needs Analysis activity Q&A and support

Please note: if you've attended (or plan to attend) our in person course, "Starting out as a researcher", you don't need to attend this as well, as it contains very similar content.

Chairs for the session: Dr Andy Goffey and Dr Eleanor Forward
