Challenging behaviours can arise in many contexts, and how we respond can make all the difference. This practical, interactive course provides the insight and techniques needed to approach difficult situations with greater confidence, empathy, and self-awareness.

This workshop relates to the “Communication”, “Self-leadership”, “Leading others: Drives performance” and “Leading others: Promotes wellbeing and inclusion” competencies outlined in the Competency Framework.

Through a blend of discussion, reflection, and scenario-based practice, you will:

  • Identify different types of challenging behaviours and understand their underlying causes
  • Explore a range of strategies for responding effectively to difficult behaviours
  • Learn and practise de-escalation techniques to help reduce tension and prevent escalation
  • Reflect on your own emotional responses and triggers, developing self-awareness and empathy
  • Apply your learning through realistic scenarios and group discussion, building practical skills for real-life situations

By the end of this course, you'll walk away with practical tools, greater emotional intelligence, and a deeper understanding of how to handle challenging behaviours with confidence, empathy, and control.
