Examining a doctoral thesis online (webinar)
Duration 1 hour 30 minutes
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy

Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target Audience: This webinar is offered to academic staff undertaking or expecting to undertake the role of internal or external examiner of a doctoral thesis within an online setting.

The webinar is suitable for all supervisors regardless of the extent of prior experience. The webinar considers the purposes of the viva voice examination and how individuals can ensure that they meet the latest university requirements. The webinar will assist academic staff to identify how they can best prepare themselves in their role as examiners, and prepare their students for online examination in their role as supervisors of research.

Description:

During this webinar we will:

  • Consider and discuss the latest doctoral examination requirements for the online environment and share hints and tips.
  • Explore the thesis examination process and clarify:
    • the different purpose(s) of a viva
    • the revised roles and responsibilities of the chair and the internal and external examiners
    • Reflect on how research supervisors can support their students during this period of uncertainty to prepare for examination in an online setting.

The Researcher Academy is aware that we are heading into a busy period for viva examinations, but equally that some colleagues will have other commitments and may not be able to join us for this discussion.

If you would like to receive a post event recording please email Parmjit Dhugga with the following subject line 'Examining a thesis online recording'.
