Induction for Research-Focused Staff (In Person)
Duration 0.5 days
Team Researcher Academy

This course is run by the Researcher Academy

Researcher Academy courses are in high demand. Most are offered in both semesters, allowing you to attend at a time of the year that best suits you.

Target audience: New and relatively new (within 12 months of appointment) research-focused staff – including but not limited to Research Assistants/Associates, Postdoctoral Researchers, Research Fellows, Fellows, Senior Research Fellows and Principal Research Fellows.

Description

The aim of this induction is to help new and relatively new research-focused staff understand and integrate into the wider research culture at the University of Nottingham. It will introduce research-focused staff to the range of research, professional and personal development opportunities available to them at the University of Nottingham; it will also serve as an opportunity to network with research-focused colleagues and meet key university staff involved in supporting researchers.

The session will provide:

  • An overview of the research culture and environment at the University of Nottingham;
  • Information about the structure and organisation of the University of Nottingham;
  • A summary of current national and university research strategies and policies, and their relevance to the roles and responsibilities of research-focused staff;
  • An introduction to the professional services and personal development opportunities available to researchers at the University of Nottingham; and
  • An opportunity to meet other new and more established research staff, to hear about the staff networks and support structures.

If the course is fully booked, please add your name to the waiting list. If places become available you will be offered the opportunity to confirm your booking. We use the waiting list to monitor demand and will schedule an additional instance if needed.

Booking Conditions

Latecomer policy

Researchers should plan to arrive prior to the advertised course start time. Except for exceptional reasons, there will be no admittance to a Researcher Academy or Faculty Training Programme (FTP) course 15 minutes after the advertised course start time.

Importance of booking commitment

When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place (on the system if more than three days before the course) or if at short notice by emailing ra-training@nottingham.ac.uk. This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.

It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. The Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.
