These courses are delivered by the Researcher Academy
Target audience: University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)Process: A series of short talks followed by a Q&A session.
Dates and locations for these talks will vary. Research Supervisor Seminars will be advertised on the Research Staff website and Central Short Courses.
Description:
This series of short talks is aimed at University staff currently involved in research supervision of masters and doctoral students, whether formally or informally. The landscape of research supervision is constantly shifting; from changes in policy through to new and different models of doctorate, the expectations of funding bodies to the expectations and capabilities of research students. Navigating these differences and knowing the best thing to do for all concerned isn't always straightforward, even for experienced supervisors. The talks cover topics that have been highlighted by supervisors as areas where they would like more advice and practice-sharing opportunities. Whilst many sessions focus on managing research students needs, others focus on specific support and development for staff in research. They are delivered by colleagues from around the University as well as external speakers. These courses are open to all staff, not students.
Aims: These talks aim to support a culture of the discussion of research supervision purpose and practice across the Institution and inform staff on a wide range of supervision topics.
