This online course is run by the Researcher Academy 

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you. 

Target audience: Postgraduate Research Students and Early Career Research Staff only.

The “Time to Write” sessions are a structured session where you write in timed intervals. They are designed to help you focus when writing. In order to get the most out of the sessions, you should have something to write as the sessions are focused around writing.

Structure:

This is an ONLINE session. You will be receive a joining link via email on booking your place. Please click this link, which sends a joining request to the tutor to join the Microsoft Team. Please do this well in advance of the session. Half an hour prior to the start, the tutor will approve all joining requests. Please remember to click the link in the email as soon as possible and not leave it until the day of the session. 

Please be ready to start writing at the session start time of 09:30. It is advisable that you get everything you need ready 15 minutes before the start at 09:15.

You will be told when to start and stop writing (for each cycle) using the chat function. After the session the Team will be deleted.   

You will need to have:

  • A laptop or desktop computer
  • Writing materials – pen, paper (if needed).
  • Any documents/resources – papers, field-notes, interview data etc
The session starts with a brief introduction and is then broken into cycles of writing: 
  • 10 minutes – Introduction and set up
  • 30 minutes - Cycle 1 writing 
  • 5 minute break
  • 30 minutes - Cycle 2 writing 
  • 5 minute break
  • 30 minutes - Cycle 3 writing 
  • 5 minute break
  • 30 minutes - Cycle 4 writing
  • 5 minute break
  • 30 minutes - Cycle 5 writing

The above schedule is repeated after a one-hour lunchbreak, totalling 10 writing blocks each of 30 minutes.

This is not a training course, but a concentrated period for writing.

Please note, attendances for webinars/ online courses will still be recorded and corresponding training points, when shown as available, will be awarded.

This session may be recorded. If a recording is kept of the session, then please note, that it may be made available to the wider University of Nottingham researcher community.


This is an ONLINE session within Microsoft Teams. Please use the link in this email to join the team. When you do this a request will be sent to the facilitator who will approve your request to join the team.

Please remember to click the link in this email before the date of the session. 

We will approve join requests on the day, 30 minutes prior to the start time. It is important that all join requests (clicking on the link in this email) are made in advance of the session so that attendees are not disturbed once the session has started. Any join requests sent on or after the start time will not be accepted."
