Course Title: Travel Risk Awareness (Online Course)

Overview:
This course is required for all individuals travelling internationally on university business, whether this be in a work or study capacity.

In brief, it covers

  • Planning and pre-travel preparation – requirements, research and packing
  • Air Travel – Security, behaviours, and on arrival
  • In-country aspects - culture, accommodation, fire safety and transportation
  • Avoiding crime – do’s and don’s and safe zones
  • Dealing with incidents – emergency plans, precautions, communications, reporting
  • Terrorism safety – risk factors, precautions, and contingency plans

Optional sections are provided for the learner to select. These offer specific travel advice relating:

  • LGBTQIA+ Travellers, Women Travellers, Mental Health, Travelling with Disabilities and Preventing Cyber Crime.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the considerations for planning your trip well, packing appropriately, and having the correct documentation in place
  • To understand the considerations for getting to your destination, your arrival, and in-country activity
  • To support the completion (where necessary) of travel risk assessments and the university’s expectations and requirements of a traveller
  • To understand the need for emergency and contingency arrangements in case your travel plans are adversely affected in some way
  • To understand the considerations for dealing with incidents while you are away
  • To direct you to information and resources to support your safety and well-being while travelling

Who should attend:
Any staff, PGR, or student travelling internationally on university business

Knowledge Check:

There are knowledge checks at various points throughout the course. Some will require a certain score before you can progress but all questions are covered by the course content or are basic checks of travel safety knowledge.  

Additional Information

It is recommended you allow at least one hour to complete the essential parts of the course. You do not have to complete it all in one go; at any point, you can pause and return to the point where you left off.

The course is certificated by the university for confirmation that you have completed the mandatory modules.
