This session equips line managers and team leaders with the tools, resources, and strategies to support new colleagues effectively from day one. We’ll explore how to create a welcoming, psychologically safe environment aligned with University of Nottingham (UoN) values, and how a strong local induction plan can enhance performance, support wellbeing, and help new staff feel connected and supported in their roles. 

This workshop relates to the “Communication” and “Leading others: supports wellbeing and inclusion” competencies outlined in the Competency framework. 

 

Session objectives: 

  • Explore tools and resources to help line managers build effective local induction plans that set clear expectations and support new colleagues to thrive. 

 

  • Gain practical advice on creating a psychologically safe environment rooted in UoN values, helping to build trust and support the mental health and wellbeing of new staff. 

 

  • Understand how to support new staff in their first few months, including ways to highlight key benefits and development opportunities, promoting a sense of belonging, motivation, and long-term engagement.
