Leadership without the 'leader' badge
Duration 1.5 Hours
Team Professional Development

This workshop is an opportunity for those who do not have a formal leadership position to think about what it means to be a leader of ourselves. You will explore how being in leader mode is a choice, and how by adopting a leadership mind-set we can lead something we care about, engage others in what we are leading for and deliver positive results.

This workshop relates to the: “Communication”, “Innovation and Problem solving”, “Self-leadership”, “Collaboration”, and “Adaptability” competencies outlined in the Competency Framework.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand what it means to be a leader and how everyone can consciously be in “leader mode” more of the time
  • Be able to describe the leader you want to be and the impact you want to have on others
  • Have identified an opportunity when you can be in “leader mode” more of the time in your current role

Please be aware that this workshop is a discussion-based session with breakout group exercises. You do not have to share anything you are not comfortable with but bear in mind you will be asked to reflect on your own experiences.

Pre-work: before the session, you must reflect on the following questions:

  • Who is the best leader you have ever worked with/for, and what made them the best for you?
  • What do you care about most in life? In other words, what matters to you, what do you value most or what do you have most passion for? (e.g. the planet, family, quality of life, purpose, ambition, money, health etc.)
