Graduate School Induction for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
Duration 0.5 days
Team Researcher Academy

This course is delivered by the Researcher Academy

Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you. Semester 1 courses will be available for booking from the second week of October and Semester 2 courses from the second week of February.

Target Audience: This session is for new postgraduate research students (PGRs) from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences – either MRes, MPhil, PhD students. This session is not applicable to those on taught Masters courses.

This is the first session on the Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty Training Programme (FTP) and the N-trans Training Programme and covers the following activities:

  • Welcome from Researcher Academy Associate Dean (M&HS), Dr Anna Grabowska
  • Researcher Academy induction for researchers
  • Development Needs Analysis: An opportunity to consider the skills and attributes that you will be expected to develop as a researcher and examine your own need as a new or relatively new research student.
  • Opportunities and support offered by Careers and Employability Service
  • Opportunities available through Postgraduate Placements (PPN)

The idea of this session is to equip you with the information and skills to get your research programme off to a flying start. It’s open to all schools in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, so this is also an opportunity to meet researchers from outside your school or discipline.

The Faculty includes the Schools of Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine

There will be networking and refreshments (cake!) in the MHS Graduate Centre at the end of the session.

Course dates for 2019/20 will be published in early October 2019.  If there are no dates listed below then the instance(s) of the course has (have) already taken place for 2019/20 academic year.

Booking Terms and Conditions

Privacy Statement

  • Researcher Academy is committed to protecting the privacy of researchers who register for our training courses and events. Your completion of the booking process shall constitute your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal data to University staff and external partners responsible for the delivery of the course or event for which you have registered.  Personal information shared includes; name, role/position, mode of study, School/Department, dietary and accessibility requirements.

Latecomer policy

  • Researchers should plan to arrive prior to the advertised course start time. Except for exceptional reasons, there will be no admittance to a Researcher Academy or Faculty Training Programme (FTP) course 15 minutes after the advertised course start time.

Importance of booking commitment

  • When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place (on the system if more than three days before the course) or if at short notice by emailing pg-training@nottingham.ac.uk. This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.
  • It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.
