This practical workshop explores some of the key design features associated with developing effective online and blended learning environments within Moodle. It also focuses on problems that colleagues may encounter when designing online learning opportunities for their students and identifies pathways to avoid them. The session is a development of the perspectives explored through Laurillard’s (2012) work on ‘Teaching as a Design Science’ and the outcomes of a recent Moodle re-design initiative and associated research project led by one of the Digital Learning Directors, Dr. Neil Hughes
