Would you like to help colleagues develop their skills, realise their potential and grow in their careers?  Whether you are a line manager, mentor, coach or simply someone who supports the development of others, this session will provide you with advice and resources to help you have meaningful development conversations.  

This session will introduce the key skills and approaches in supporting the career development of others. You will explore what career and professional development means in practice, learn techniques for facilitating effective development conversations and gain and overview of the opportunities and resources available across the university.  

This workshop is suitable for any member of staff who supports the development of colleagues across all job families and career stages, including line managers, mentors, coaches and those in other developmental or supportive roles. 

 

Learning Outcomes:   

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Apply key skills and techniques that support effective career and development conversations. 
  • Identify and signpost relevant development opportunities, resources and support available within the university. 
  • Reflect on their own role in supporting the growth and development of others. 

 

This workshop relates to the “Communication”, “Leading others: Drives performance”, “Leading others: Promotes wellbeing and inclusion” competencies outlined in the Competency Framework.   

Please note: this session will cover broad themes that will cover core principles that are universally relevant to help you support the career development of others; it will not cover specific advice for individual job roles/pathways.
