This workshop provides a broader understanding of principles underpinning teaching design, and inclusive teaching and assessment delivery.
Overview The Preparing to Teach in Higher Education programme is linked to the UK Professional Standards Framework and introduces you to key ideas around teaching and learning practice found in UK higher education.
Who should attend: Most participants are Post Graduate Research students, including those applying for, or recently appointed to, Post Graduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA) positions. However, it is open to anyone new to a teaching role or anticipating a teaching role and delivering less than 20 hours in an academic year. In summary:
1. PGR students who are about to take up, or have teaching roles, delivering less than 20 hours teaching in an academic year. 2. PGR students who want to improve their understanding of approaches to HE teaching in the UK. 3. Staff delivering some teaching but not required to complete other programmes (e.g PGCHE) or who aspire to teach in Higher Education.
Certification and recognition of completion.
This programme is certificated by the University of Nottingham. This programme is not accredited or credit bearing.
There is no assessment but completion of all 3 workshops is essential for certification. Your attendance at Preparing to Teach in HE workshops will be recorded on your Personal Training Record. If you wish to demonstrate that you have met training recommendations for PGTA application, please access and share your personal training record. Certificates of attendance are not given for individual workshop attendance.
Workshops Workshops 1 and 3 are half-day workshops (3hrs) Workshop 2 is a 2 hour workshop
1: Delivering and Assessing Learning This workshop focusses on the practical skills needed to deliver small group teaching and learning, and robust and reliable assessment and feedback. Attendance at this workshop meets the recommended requirements for application to a PGTA position for most Faculties.
2: Self-Leadership This workshop guides participants towards identifying their strengths and building an evidence base to demonstrate impact, and to engage in self-Leadership
3: Designing Learning This workshop provides a broader understanding of principles underpinning teaching design, and inclusive teaching and assessment delivery.
