Target Audience: Research-only staff (Postdoctoral researchers, Research Assistants/Associates, Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows) from all Faculties

Process: A webinar series of short talks followed by a Q&A session. Dates and times for these talks will vary, please see listing below for individual session descriptions and booking links.

Equipment required: ideally participants should have microphone and speaker to participate in the group discussions, and may wish to use a webcam too if available.   

Series description: The ADAPT: Together series seeks to platform different perspectives and strategies for dealing with some of the hurdles experienced when building a research career, in the hope of generating an honest, supportive and constructive space. The series encompasses topics relevant for research careers in and beyond academia.

Each weekly webinar features a different theme and the series will run initially throughout June and July. During the webinar your peers, including more senior colleagues, will be sharing meaningful aspects of their stories and discuss these with attendees. Each webinar will include a panel of speakers from across the University research community and will include short talks and the opportunity for Q&A as well as attendee discussions.

Session 2: The academic rollercoaster: Strategies for building your professional resilience 

Speakers: Dr Elvira Perez-Vallejos and Professor Laurie Cohen 

What do you do when things don’t go according to plan? In this session, we invite academic colleagues to reflect on how they have adapted to challenges and disappointments throughout their academic journeys so far. Amongst other issues, we will explore how speakers manage job, promotion or grant proposal rejections, and what strategies they have to learn from these potential knock-backs to build a stronger case for the future.
