Target Audience: Research-only staff (Postdoctoral researchers, Research Assistants/Associates, Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows) from all Faculties

Process: A webinar series of short talks followed by a Q&A session. Dates and times for these talks will vary, please see listing below for individual session descriptions and booking links.

Equipment required: ideally participants should have microphone and speaker to participate in the group discussions, and may wish to use a webcam too if available.   

Series description: The ADAPT: Together series seeks to platform different perspectives and strategies for dealing with some of the hurdles experienced when building a research career, in the hope of generating an honest, supportive and constructive space. The series encompasses topics relevant for research careers in and beyond academia.

Each weekly webinar features a different theme and the series will run initially throughout June and July. During the webinar your peers, including more senior colleagues, will be sharing meaningful aspects of their stories and discuss these with attendees. Each webinar will include a panel of speakers from across the University research community and will include short talks and the opportunity for Q&A as well as attendee discussions.

Session 5The Meerkat Researcher: Taking an active role in the broader professional and research community  

This webinar will focus on the benefits and challenges of taking a broader active role in the wider academic, professional and research community. What advantages this can have to widen your networks and bolster your esteem indicators within your disciplinary field, school and faculty. Our speakers will discuss their own experiences and the opportunities that have arisen as a result of seeking out and being actively involved in their broader community. 

In summary this session will cover, 

  • Reflection on what opportunities are available and how tengage  
  • How opportunities can benefit your CV and contribute to building a professional reputation 
  • Challenges of balancing research commitments and other commitments  
  • Helping you to consider what opportunities exist in your own professional bodies and societies, School, Faculty and beyond.
