This face-to-face course is run by the Researcher Academy

Target audience: This course is designed for researchers preparing to conduct interviews as part of a qualitative or mixed-methods research project. It is open to researchers at any career stage who would like to gain confidence in using this method. 

Description: 

This course forms part of the Researcher Academy Developing and defending robust qualitative research programme. It is follows day one of the programme Which qualitative approach? which we suggest you attend first. As part of this programme you can also attend an in-depth practical workshops on Practising focus groups.

Aim: To support participants to be able to conduct an interview with confidence

Objectives:

• To introduce participants to preparing themselves to conduct an interview
• To introduce participants to formulating interview questions
• To think about how an interview might feel as an interviewee
• To practice interviewing
• To observe to provide and receive supportive feedback on interviewing skills
• To introduce steps for analysis

This workshop will support participants to discuss together and in small groups things to consider before conducting an interview; model an interview; provide participants with opportunities to practise interviewing with each other, observing and feeding back on the experience; think in small groups about how to use qualitative interview data.
