Research Supervisor Seminar Series - Developing Positive Working Relationships with your PGRs
Duration 1 hour 30 minutes
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy and forms part of the Research Supervisor Seminar Series

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target Audience: University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)

Course Description:

The supervisor and PGR relationship plays a key part in the doctoral journey and is central to research group integrity and PGR wellbeing. Maintaining positive and healthy working relationships with your PGRs can provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in their chosen career post doctorate and is essential for their success. However, things might not work as expected and it is important that a supervisor is equipped to handle such situations. Developing successful working relationships, setting clear boundaries and establishing trust is the key.

This session draws upon considerable supervisory experience, with presentations from: Dr Ravinder Anand-Ivell (Science), Professor Yupeng Wu (Engineering), Professor Andrew Mumford (Social Science), Dr Jane Medwell (Social Science) and Dr Alison Edgley (MHS) who will each provide their own accounts and tips on how to develop and enhance positive working relationships with your PGRs. We also aim to have an open discussion platform which includes an opportunity for participants to take part in an active Q&A session. Please bring any questions you may have along with you!

Speakers: Ravinder Anand-Ivell, Yupeng Wu, Andrew Mumford, Jane Medwell and Alison Edgley

Process: Webinar - Panel presentations and discussion
