Have you wondered what teaching and learning in Higher Education (HE) might look like in the future? For many universities, the answer lies in a blended learning model using platforms such as Moodle and Microsoft Teams, in which academics combine synchronous teaching on campus (or online) with asynchronous learning delivered online. This course aims to explore some of the key definitions, concepts and frameworks shaping approaches to effective blended learning design as well as inviting you to create your own blended learning exemplar. As part of this, we will explore some of the affordances, implications and opportunities that generative AI offer for learning, teaching and assessment (LTA). More specifically, we will explore how we can use chatbots powered by large language models such as ChatGPT to play the role of more knowledgeable other (MKO), helping to personalize learning for students within their zone of proximal development (ZPD), otherwise referred to as 'the sweet spot for learning'. By so doing, this course aims to provide you with a body of knowledge and skills that will stand you in good stead, especially if you are actively considering an academic career or are already working in Higher Education.

Process: Lecture style with interactive group discussions and small group work
