Research Supervisor Seminar Series - Supporting PGRs into Non-Academic Careers
Duration 1 hour 30 minutes
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy and forms part of the Research Supervisor Seminar Series

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target Audience: University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)

Course Description:

Career pathways are now non-linear and the way we support PGRs find their career pathway is getting more complex. In this session, Kirstin Barnard will discuss the role the careers and employability service can play in helping supervisors support PGRs on their non-academic career path as well as providing some practical and actionable tips.

Dr Peter Noy will then talk about the supervisor-student dynamic in understanding PGR interests, drivers, and talents; the importance of PGRs finding a mentor/ambassador in a non-academic career and a supervisor’s role in helping their PGRs develop and identify transferable skills. This session also brings together a panel of experts, from across disciplines, who support PGRs to answer questions on how best to support PGRs into non-academic careers.

Speakers: Kirstin Barnard, Lucie Whitfield, Dr Peter Noy, Dr Lucy Bradnock and Dr Sam Dakka

Process: Webinar - Panel presentations and discussion
