Webinar: The Redeployment Pool Explained and How to Re-Position Your Skillset
Duration Online
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target Audience:
Research-only staff and line managers of research-only staff

Research-only staff are defined as staff who are primarily employed at the university to undertake research. This is typically colleagues who have job titles research Associate, Research Assistant, Research Fellow, ‘postdoc’, Senior Research Fellow and Principle Research Fellow.

Description:

This webinar co-hosted by the Researcher Academy and HR will provide an introduction to the redeployment processes at the university that are open to staff at risk of redundancy.

The funding climate of research in the UK is such that most projects and their funding are time and budget-limited. Therefore the researchers employed on projects with this type of funding have a defined end date to the project and the funding and will often have employment contracts that may be fixed-term for a specified period or open-ended but subject to the availability of underlying funding. As the funding draws to a close the researcher may be eligible (subject to duration of service) for redundancy and redeployment.

This webinar is aimed at research-only colleagues and will include insight into the policy and processes for redundancy and redeployment at the university. The session will include how researchers can position themselves to take the best opportunity from the redeployment pool and how to position and reposition your skillset and experiences to apply for opportunities that arise through the redeployment pool, which may include applying for roles in research that are at a tangent to your current field, or taking a direct step away from research into teaching and learning roles, research support and professional services.

The webinar will be particularly useful for any researcher whose employment is subject to underlying funding (open-ended contract subject to underlying funding or fixed term contract) this may be to satisfy an immediate need or for future information and can be attended at any stage in an employment contract.

Process: Webinar with tutor-led presentation and opportunity for Q&A

Session recording: The recording of the latest session can be accessed (internal only) on SharePoint here  Dated Feb 2023.
