Responsible and Effective use of Generative AI across the Research Lifecycle
Duration 2
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target audience: PGRs/ECRs/Academic Staff

Description:

This session provides a practical introduction to using generative AI responsibly in research, covering tasks like literature scoping, coding support, and improving writing clarity.

Through demonstrations and interactive exercises, participants learn to manage risks, distinguish appropriate AI use from problematic delegation, and leave with a personal code of practice and simple documentation tools for lab books, theses, and manuscripts.

What you’ll be able to do after the session:

  • Identify appropriate use cases for AI in literature review, coding, and writing.
  • Use prompting strategies that encourage critical thinking.
  • Recognise and manage risks such as hallucinations and bias.
  • Understand expectations from institutions, journals, and funders on AI use and disclosure.
  • Develop a personal code of practice for AI use in research.

Who this is for: Doctoral researchers, academic staff, and research professionals who want clear, practical guidance on using generative AI responsibly in their work.

It is particularly valuable for those seeking clear, practical guidance on what is permitted, how to manage risk responsibly, and how to document AI use in ways that satisfy supervisors, collaborators, publishers, and institutional policy requirements.
