Course Description:

Research governance exists to safeguard participants of health and social care research by setting standards for research conduct, defining how these standards should be delivered and assessing these arrangements once in place.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

If you are working with:

• NHS staff, patients or their data,
• Ionising radiation,
• Participants lacking the mental capacity to consent, and/or
• Drug or medical device studies

then you will require Health Research Authority approval and most likely NHS ethics.

The Research Governance team will talk you through approval requirements, triggers, processes and top tips to navigate obtaining research approvals including NHS REC and HRA.

This session will explore:

• Types of Research
• Approvals
• Approval Process
• Top tips

Learning outcomes/objectives

• To be able to determine whether a project is within Health Research Authority Remit.
• To gain an understanding of the steps required to comply and protect your research.
• To gain an understanding of the types of approvals needed.
