This online course is run by the Researcher Academy and forms part of the Research Supervisor Seminar Series
The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.
Target Audience: University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)
Course Description:
As the academic year starts and we build new relationships with research students, it is timely to benefit from the insights of experienced colleagues. In this session we will consider some tricky supervision scenarios, and use them as the basis for discussing the joys and challenges of PhD supervision.
This session is aimed at newer doctoral supervisors, but more experienced colleagues who wish to refresh or reflect upon their own practice are equally welcome. We welcome colleagues from any school, and our speakers come from two different faculties: Social Science and Arts.
Relationships with doctoral students in these faculties are generally characterised by individual projects and regular but infrequent formal meetings. However, this is not always the case and our speakers have an understanding of other models, such as those in many STEM fields where group projects are frequent but often brief or informal contact in the lab are the norm.
Speakers: Laurie Cohen and Lucy Bradnock
Process: Webinar - Panel presentations and discussion
