This online course is run by the Researcher Academy and forms part of the Research Supervisor Seminar Series

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Target Audience: University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)

Course Description:

Setting expectations for your new doctoral student is an important part of their initial induction period. In this session we will explore expectations around the training and development of the doctoral student throughout the journey of the doctorate, from those initial conversations through to revisiting and reshaping as the student and project progress.

We will briefly look at sector and institutional requirements around doctoral training and hear from an experience supervisor on their own approaches to undertaking these important developmental conversations. The session will focus on the practicalities of undertaking a development needs analysis or training needs analysis, what it is and suggestions for structuring those initial and follow on conversations. The session will be led by Dr Victoria Sedman, Researcher Training and Development Manager (RA) and our speaker is Professor Laurie Cohen, NUBS.

Speakers: Professor Laurie Cohen and Dr Victoria Sedman

Process: Webinar - Panel presentations and discussion
