This face to face course is run by the Researcher Academy
The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.
Target audience: Researchers and staff across the University.
This course is aimed at beginners and does not involve any programming.
Intermediate or advanced users of text mining and/or those with programming skills may find this course too basic for their requirements.
Description:
The Digital Scholar Lab makes it straightforward to analyse anywhere from a handful to thousands of documents at once using a range of text mining tools in a simple, web browser-based interface.
The Faculty of Arts Digital Transformations Hub provides an overview of how to use the Gale Digital Scholar Lab to get started with text mining. You can bring your own text, or use the tool with databases the UoN Libraries have bought from Gale (including US Declassified Documents Online, 19th Century UK Periodicals, British Library Newspapers, Eighteenth Century Collections online, The Economist Online, and more).
You will need a web browser and online access to the Libraries' resources to use this tool; no further technical knowledge is required. This course is aimed at beginners and does not involve any programming.
Intermediate or advanced users of text mining and/or those with programming skills may find this course too basic for their requirements.
Process: A 90-minute webinar. Participants should expect to undertake some activities using the Digital Scholar Lab via their web browser; it would be easiest to use a computer and not a mobile device.
