Surface Analysis with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy - XPS (online)
Duration 2 hours (3 x 15 minute offline sessions & 1 hour live session for summary, exercise, demo and Q&A)
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is organised by the Researcher Academy on behalf of the nmRC

Target Audience: PGRs and ECRs in the faculties of Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences and Science

  • Introduction to XPS theory and instrumentation (basics and capabilities)
  • Example analysis of XPS data for ‘real’ samples.

Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the surface chemical characterisation technique X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and is intended for novice users of this instrumentation.

The course will cover:

Learning outcomes

  • Familiarisation with the XPS facilities available at the nmRC and elsewhere
  • Theoretical basis for techniques based on XPS
  • Functionality of specific instrumentation
  • Practical applications of XPS
This course will be recorded, and the recording made available to all attendees and future attendees. By registering to attend you consent to the live session being recorded.
Process:

This course will be delivered through a blended approach including asynchronous and synchronous delivery. The scheduled timings for this course are for the synchronous delivery only and the asynchronous delivery must be completed in advance. The overall length of course 120 minutes.

Asynchronous: Watch and Read. To be completed at own pace in advance of joining the webchat. Completion time: approx.  60 minutes

Synchronous: Join 1 hour webchat for tutor Q&A after completing asynchronous part of course. Completion time: approx. 60 mins

All materials will be available on Moodle course page. The Moodle course page will close to first time enrolments 24 hours prior to the start of the webchat.

How the register will be taken

To receive an attendance mark for this training, students must complete both the asynchronous and synchronous content and in the correct order. The register will be collated from both Moodle usage and the webchat Teams participant listing
