This is a mandatory unit in the Discovering Teaching Pathway 

Pre-Requisite 

It is recommended to complete the online course "How Students Learn” (available mid Sept 24) before taking this course. 

Overview 

This course is designed to help you take control of your career development through self-leadership by enhancing your self-awareness and equipping you with practical tools to set actionable goals aligned with your career plans. Additionally, you will explore future learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional growth. By attending, you will gain the skills and confidence needed to proactively manage your early career aspirations. 

Learning Outcomes  

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:  

  • Describe how self-leadership can support your career success  
  • Use tools to develop greater self-awareness and identify your strengths and weaknesses 
  • Create clear actionable goals that align with your future career plans 
  • Be aware of future learning opportunities that will support you in achieving your future career goals  

Who should attend?  

Staff and Post Graduate Research students who are at the beginning of your teaching journey. You may be a:  

  • Newly appointed Post Graduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA’s) 
  • Demonstrator 
  • Technician 
  • Anyone who has aspects of delivery or support of teaching and learning in their role and is new to teaching. E.g. roles such as: librarians, careers advisors, education and student engagement, residential experience, support and wellbeing, and counselling.
  • Post Graduate Research student (PGR’s)
