UKRI open access policy: information event
Duration Online
Team UoN Libraries
Course aims

This online webinar (delivered via MS Teams) will explain the requirements of the new UKRI open access policy which came into effect on 1 April 2022. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session.

Target audience

This information event is intended for research staff and post-graduate research students from all faculties who are in receipt of funding from UKRI (the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England).

Description

Ensuring your research outputs are available on an open access (OA) basis enables them to reach a broader audience, increasing the impact of your research and potentially boosting numbers of citations.

Like other major funders, UKRI has expectations about open access for funded research outputs. This session will consider the options available to UKRI-funded authors for making outputs OA in compliance with the new policy.

The UKRI policy applies to:
  • peer-reviewed articles, reviews and conference papers submitted for publication on or after 1 April 2022; and
  • long-form publications (monographs, book chapters and edited collections) published on or after 1 January 2024.
A presentation will be delivered by members of the Research Support team (UoN Libraries), after which attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session you will:
  • understand the scope of the new UKRI open access policy;
  • understand what you need to do according to the venue of publication;
  • find out about additional considerations and requirements, including licensing mandates, data access statements and ORCID iD;
  • learn about the transformative/transitional agreements (also called 'read and publish' agreements) in which the University is participating and how these can be used as a route to complying with UKRI policy; and
  • find out how UoN Libraries can support you when publishing.
