Aims and Objectives

To familiarise you with the university expectations for avoiding plagiarism, developing a critical approach and academic style in coursework. The course helps you to:

  • use information from different reading sources to support your argument, to develop your own `voice` in academic writing, and to avoid plagiarism
  • take a critical approach to reading/writing and use strategies for critical writing
  • understand British academic text conventions
  • use academic style

Process

Tutor input, individual and pairwork activities, writing tasks, opportunities to discuss difficulties with writing and examples of academic written work.

Who should attend

International postgraduate and undergraduate students who would like to understand university expectations for referring to different sources while developing your own `voice`, improving academic style, and critical writing. It is advisable to attend this module after completing Academic Writing: Planning an Assignment.
