Aims and Objectives

To familiarise you with the fundamental university requirements and expectations for academic coursework writing. The course helps you to:

• Plan and organise academic assignments to suit different types of questions
• Decide what it is necessary to include in academic essay writing
• Keep relevant to the question throughout your answer
• Use sources appropriately in academic writing (eg paraphrasing, quoting, etc)

Process

Tutor input, individual and pairwork activities, writing tasks, opportunities to discuss difficulties with writing and examples of academic written work.

Who should attend

International students at undergraduate or masters level who feel they need to work on planning, organisation and relevance in their assignments. Unless you feel confident in the above areas, it is advisable to attend Academic Writing: Planning an Assignment before going on to Academic Writing: Synthesising Sources.
