Safeguarding in Higher Education (Online Course)
Duration Approximately 45 Minutes
Team PD eLearning

HE Safeguarding e-learning Course is about protecting students in the broadest sense of the term, not just about protecting and detecting abuse and neglect.  Safeguarding in a Higher Education context is about being as proactive as possible, rather than waiting for problems to arise.

This course is specifically designed to equip staff with the confidence to deal with safeguarding issues, recognise signs of neglect and abuse, to know the steps necessary to report these issues, and empower staff with the knowledge and tools they need to get support or take action.

This Safeguarding e-learning course has 8 sections, plus an assessment:

  • Introduction
  • Legal Background
  • Recognising Abuse
  • Institutional Abuse
  • Responding to Abuse
  • Disclosure
  • Whistle Blowing
  • Prevent
  • Assessment – a quiz at the end of the course to your knowledge on the subject.

Please Note: These materials are generically used across the HE sector, and
although the training references escalating concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, within UoN this would initially be the relevant Safeguarding Lead or Report and Support, details available below:

You may also find some terms used that are not UoN specific (e.g. PSHE, which relates to pastoral care). You should take the key messages from the training and consider how this relates to your practice at UoN.

Course duration:
This Safeguarding e-learning Course should take around 45 minutes to complete. Learners can bookmark their progress before exiting the course, and resume from that point.
