The course is an introductory session that involves several information sections, a short film and a 10-question test that, when successfully completed, enables the worker to proceed to the next stage of being locally trained in the specific laser systems they need to use. The latter is the responsibility of the worker's PI/Supervisor.
The student will gain knowledge of:
Laser classification and associated hazards
The typical safety precautions that need to be taken when working with the more hazardous classes of laser (also aiming to comply with University and sector guidance)
How to do MPE calculations and select appropriate eye wear
How laser safety is managed at the University
Who should attend: all new laser users, particularly those aiming to use Class 3B or 4 lasers (staff and students).
