Twitter ("X") for Academic Networking (Webinar)
Duration 0.5 days
Team Researcher Academy

This online course is run by the Researcher Academy

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

This course is a WEBINAR and therefore will take place online. A link to access the webinar will be sent to you a few days in advance of the course.

Aims/ Objectives:

  • Understand what Twitter is and how it can be used to build your own academic profile
  • Look at some practical ways to create content, interact, and manage your account
  • Reflect on why you might (or might not) want to engage with Twitter or other forms of social media
  • Think about the potential downsides and look at some examples of when things go wrong

Please note that this course is an introductory level one and so the content is aimed at those who are not familiar with Twitter. The first hour of the session will provide a practical demonstration related to the creation of a Twitter profile, how to follow other users, engagement with hashtags, creation of lists, use of social media management tools, and will highlight the University social media policy. The second hour of the session will look at both the opportunities and challenges of using Twitter for networking purposes.

This session will focus on Twitter, and its use in an academic context, although many of the principles we will go through can be transferred to other social media platforms.
