Introduction to ANSYS-ICEM for Engineers
Duration 2 days
Team Researcher Academy

Duration:                                             2 half-days

Course Tutor:                         Ms Ruijun Zhang

Academic Champion:            Dr. Parham A. Mirzaei, Assistant Professor

Description:

ICEM is a powerful meshing engine useful for Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research and studies. ICEM addresses the needs of research engineers in many industry sectors including automotive, aerospace and durable consumer goods. It is useful for visualisation using software based surfacing and styling. This workshop will provide an introduction to meshing skills using ANSYS-ICEM, and offer technical support to doctoral students using the software. The workshop starts with the fundamental of meshing, and then moves on to develop the necessary skills to generate a complex mesh. This course is intended for people who have had little or no experience with ANSYS-ICEM CFD.

Topics:

1.      Introduction to ICEM

2.      Basic concepts in ICEM

a.      Structured, unstructured and hybrid mesh

b.      Terms used in ICEM, i.e.

                                            i.            Geometry: points, curves, surfaces, body

ii.            Blocking: vertices, edges, faces, blocks, association

iii.            Mesh: nodes, aspect ratio, quality

c.       Part creation

3.      Geometry generation

4.      Mesh Creation

a.      Unstructured mesh by body

b.      Structured mesh by blocks

c.       Hybrid mesh

5.      2D case study

6.      3D case study

Aim

The aim of this workshop is to enable the doctoral student to become familiar with the fundamentals and the advanced issues necessary for meshing.

Objective

By the end of this workshop, students would be able to design an appropriate strategy to generate their mesh.
